All about our gourmet tours of Lyon

A gourmet tour is an exploration of a neighborhood through its food culture: markets, artisans, producers, chefs, and local products. Each stop is a tasting and a human encounter.

What sets our gourmet tours apart from classic food tours is the selection of stops and the depth of the narrative. We don't just taste: we tell stories and explain the historical connection of why this product is eaten here. Why Lyon is the capital of gastronomy, the origin of Lyon's traditional bouchons, the region's curing expertise, why the Halles Paul Bocuse are a living space and not just a simple covered market… and so on.

The artisans are carefully selected for quality products and a desire to share their passion. Our guides know the artisans they introduce to you personally. It is an authentic experience, far from standardized tours, led by guides who live here.

Lyon Original Tours offers three gourmet tours, each anchored in a distinct neighborhood with its own culinary identity:

- The gourmet tour of Old Lyon: in the heart of the Renaissance district, between traboules and traditional Lyonnais bouchons. A deep dive into the city's most authentic culinary tradition: cured meats, cheeses, and local specialties at artisan shops established for decades.

– The gourmet tour of the Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse: the temple of Lyon gastronomy. A unique covered market in France, where the region's best producers showcase and sell their exceptional products. A must-visit stop to understand why Lyon deserves its title as the gastronomic capital of the world.

– The gourmet tour of the Presqu'île: an exploration of shopping streets and iconic food spots between the Rhône and Saône rivers. Chocolatiers, fine food shops, wine merchants, pastry chefs... A tour that reveals the richness and diversity of Lyon's culinary craftsmanship.

We can also offer to combine 2 neighborhoods upon request.

Each gourmet tour includes between 1 and 5 tastings and lasts between 1.5 and 4 hours.

Tastings vary by neighborhood and season: Lyonnaise cured meats (rosette, jésus, Lyon sausage), regional cheeses (Saint-Félicien, Rigotte de Condrieu, Bleu du Beaujolais), pink pralines, chocolate, Lyonese sweets, Beaujolais or Rhône Valley wines, and traditional Lyonnais pastry specialties.

We work with trusted artisan partners selected for the quality of their products and their commitment to the Lyon tradition. Steps may vary slightly depending on seasonal availability and the evolution of our partnerships.

We do our utmost to adapt our tours to your participants' dietary requirements. Vegetarianism, gluten-free, lactose or nut allergies: please be sure to specify these when booking or requesting a quote.

Please note that traditional Lyon cuisine is heavily centered on charcuterie and meat products. For groups that are entirely vegetarian or vegan, we offer a 100% vegetarian food tour upon request.

In case of doubt, contact us before booking: we prefer to adapt in advance rather than deal with surprises on the day.
