From Lyon Centre

Beaujolais, the "little Tuscany" 30 km from Lyon

Just 30 km north of Lyon, the Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées is one of the most beautiful wine regions in France, and one of the least known to hurried tourists! Some forty villages surrounded by vineyards, sometimes perched on hills, invite you to explore a landscape that the Lyon Tourist Office itself calls «little Tuscan Beaujolais.».

The golden stone of Beaujolais is an ochre and luminous limestone, tinted by iron oxides: it gives the villages their characteristic warm color, playing with the sun's reflections according to the hours and seasons. The Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées and its villages are certified «Vignobles et Découvertes» (Vineyards and Discoveries), a label awarded by the Ministries of Agriculture and Tourism.

Far from the clichés of Beaujolais Nouveau, this region hides exceptional crus (Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie, Juliénas, etc.) that our guides introduce you to directly with passionate winemakers, in family cellars passed down from generation to generation.

Two ways to discover the Beaujolais

Excursion Beaujolais velo electrique vignoble

Electric Bike Tour: In the Beaujolais Vineyards

For a more immersive and athletic experience, set out to explore the Beaujolais vineyards by electric bike. Along the small roads winding between the rows of Gamay, you will cross landscapes of rare beauty: rolling hills, golden villages, and cellars hidden at the end of a vineyard path.

The excursion includes a tasting at a partner winery, where the winemaker welcomes you directly among their vats and barrels. A different way to discover Beaujolais, at your own pace, with electric assistance that makes the climbs as enjoyable as the descents.

Bus tour: Half-day or full-day

The ideal formula for groups. Departure by coach from your Lyon hotel, heading south to the Beaujolais region. On the agenda: crossing the golden stone villages, including Oingt, a perched and fortified medieval village ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, overlooking the Azergues valley with its small cobbled streets and golden stone monuments where many artisans and creators are based.

The morning continues with a cellar visit at a local winemaker's: a guided tasting of several vintages, an explanation of the terroir and the winemaking techniques specific to Beaujolais. For the full-day package, lunch at a local inn completes the experience, featuring regional cuisine paired with wines from the estate.
