Monumental street art, unusual traboules, passionate artisans: a gourmet tour in the heart of living Lyon, between the lower slopes of Croix-Rousse and Place des Terreaux.

The gourmet tour that reveals living, contemporary Lyon

La Presqu’île is today's Lyon: commercial, creative, on the move. Between the Fresque des Lyonnais and Place des Terreaux, this area concentrates a cultural and gastronomic diversity that few visitors take the time to truly explore. Our food tour takes you there with a passionate local guide, through painted walls, unusual places, and artisan addresses that even the locals themselves sometimes haven't yet stepped inside.

Monumental painted walls, little-known traboules at the bottom of the Croix-Rousse slopes, street art, and Haussmann architecture: every street holds a surprise. At each stop, an encounter with a local artisan who opens the backstage of their establishment, sharing their history, secrets, and products. A discovery of Lyon with a gastronomic angle that combines culture with indulgence.

For groups of more than 15 people, we form two sub-groups, each led by a dedicated guide, in order to guarantee the quality of the interactions with the artisans and the intimacy of the experience. Both groups follow the same route and meet at the same location upon arrival for a shared moment together.

How does a food tour work?

📍 BRIEFING: Welcome and introduction

The guide welcomes the group at the starting point on the Presqu'île. Introduction to the neighborhood, its history, and the tour itinerary. For groups of more than 12 people, the group is divided into sub-groups, each led by a dedicated guide to ensure a quality experience and close interaction with the artisans.

🚶 Traboules and must-see squares of the Presqu'île

The guide takes the group into the little-known traboules and passages of the Presqu’île: less famous than those of Old Lyon, but just as striking. Courtyards, spiral staircases, glimpses into Lyonnais life... Each passage holds a surprise. You will also discover the must-see squares of the Presqu’île (Bourse, Terreaux, Célestins, Jacobins, or even Bellecour).

🧀 Tasting stops with our artisan partners

At each key step of the tour, the guide pushes open the door of a carefully selected local artisan. Cheesemonger-refiner, baker-pastry chef, craft brewer, fine grocer: each artisan presents their products, shares their story, and discusses their connection to Lyon's culinary tradition. Tastings vary depending on the chosen duration and the season.

🥩 Example of tasted products

You will have the choice between: an assortment of regional cheeses with a glass of white wine, a selection of local cured meats with a glass of red wine, Lyonese specialties in a traditional Lyonese bistro (bouchon), a praline tart or brioche with hot or cold drinks, a pairing of fine chocolate and local dark beer, artisanal ice creams from Ardèche, as well as other specialties and sweets from Lyon...

🍽️ Option: Meal in a traditional Lyonnais bouchon

Upon request, the tour can be extended with lunch or dinner at an authentic Lyonnais bouchon. A modified formula is available by omitting the starter or dessert (replaced by the Food Tour done before or after). A convivial moment in the intimate setting of a real bouchon, far from tourist traps, in the spirit of Lyonnais tradition.

Everything to know about the gourmet tour of the Lyon Peninsula

The Presqu’île of Lyon is a unique territory in the French urban landscape. Wedged between the Rhône and Saône rivers, it concentrates an exceptional cultural, gastronomic, and artistic density within just a few square kilometers. It is both the commercial and cultural heart of Lyon, with its iconic squares, museums, Haussmann-style architecture, and shopping streets... But it is also the city's most vibrant district, driven by a booming artisanal and creative scene. The blend of historical heritage (the Fresque des Lyonnais, Place des Terreaux, City Hall) and contemporary creation makes it an ideal setting for a gourmet tour, where every street alternates between historical anecdotes and encounters with modern-day artisans.

Yes: it is even a tour that is very popular with international groups, precisely because it offers an image of Lyon that differs from the classic postcard. The monumental wall murals, street art, and architecture of the lower slopes create a visually striking and immediately accessible setting, regardless of the participants' culture. The tastings at local artisans' shops are presented in a way that gives each participant the cultural keys to understand what they are tasting: why praline brioche is a Lyon specialty, where the tradition of cured meats comes from, why there are so many good cheeses in the city... The tour is available in French or English, with bilingual guides accustomed to international corporate groups.

Yes, it is possible. We work with authentic partner "bouchons lyonnais" that agree to privatize their dining room for your groups (depending on the size). Complete or adapted formula in an intimate and typically Lyonnais setting, far from tourist traps. The reservation is managed by Lyon Original Tours as part of your overall quote. Please specify your preference when you contact us and we will include the dinner in the proposal.

These are two complementary experiences with very different atmospheres. The gourmet tour of Old Lyon dives into medieval and Renaissance Lyon: listed traboules, 15th-century architecture, and artisans rooted in tradition. It is historical Lyon in all its density. The gourmet tour of the Presqu'île explores living, contemporary Lyon. Both tours can be combined for groups wishing for total immersion in the city. Contact us for a custom-tailored program.
